The zoo starts talking when you stop walking
Your Zoo is an audio guide for Frankfurt Zoo. It works out which enclosure you are facing and tells that animal's story — and it would rather stay quiet than name the wrong animal.
The whole zoo ships inside the app: 31 enclosures, 77 species with a spoken story and five rotating facts each, images and the path geometry. No account, no sign-in, no analytics. You need no signal in the park — GPS works via satellite.
Three screens
Karte — map
Where you are
The enclosures from OpenStreetMap, your 3D explorer turning with the compass, and a “near you” sheet showing what is playing.
Tier-Story — guide
What you hear
The animal's story, a “super fact” that changes on every visit, and a player with speed control and a read-along transcript.
Your Zoo — pass
Your card
Photograph your membership card once. The app reads the QR code, the name and the expiry, and shows it at the turnstile — even without a signal.
What the app does — and what it does not
- Offline: every text, image, piece of map geometry and the speech itself live on the device. The network is used only for content updates — and for the Apple base map under the enclosures.
- Automatic: location and compass decide which enclosure is meant. When that is not clear enough, the app stays silent. Why it stays quiet.
- Three languages: German, English, Spanish — interface, texts and speech.
- No account, no analytics, no advertising, no trackers. Nothing about you leaves the device.
- Not in this version: recorded narration (stories are read out by the device), zoos other than Frankfurt, an offline base map.
